Client: City West Water – Billing division
The under registration of non-residential customer meters could result in significant loss of revenue. An assessment of revenue meter error is also required for the company water balance calculation to quantify both real and apparent losses.
Detection Services (DS) was engaged to undertake in-situ validation studies of non-residential meters to estimate meter accuracy.
Data loggers were installed on the identified revenue meters to monitor the normal consumption flow pattern. One Second Pulse Interval Time logging was used to maximise the data storage capacity of the loggers while ensuring that the data resolution was sufficiently high for the subsequent analysis. The project included the development of a data management spreadsheet to calculate meter accuracy, based on manufacturer’s specifications for the individual meter types and sizes.
The results of the study showed that most of the meters were operating within (or very close to) their design flow range.
